Cantaloupe Drop Mule Drink

CANTALOUPE DRINK OVERVIEW

When I was young, my momsy used to make her favorite fruity drink called Melon Sa Malamig (Filipino Cantaloupe Drink).  Melon Sa Malamig  means “Cold Melon Drink” in Tagalog.  She used to tell me that the Melon Sa Malamig Drink was served by street vendors in the provinces in the Philippines.  Those vendors would serve the melon drink in plastic bags with a straw.  Practically, every drink were served in a plastic bag because of the poor economy then.

My momsy would make these herself in a big pitcher.  It’s almost like having an Agua Fresca – a Mexican Refreshing drink.  She used a scraper to make long stringy strands of the melon.  I remembered that her melon drink was so delicious during my summer vacations from school back then!

Well now, I decided to take that idea of using melons (cantaloupes) and create a tropical alcoholic drink.  I hope most of you are of age – 21 and over!

BEHIND THE CANTALOUPE DROP NAME

Cause you gotta DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT Tootz!

Back in my alcoholic clubbing days, I used to order a Surfer on Acid Shot or a Lemon Drop Shooter cause it’s easier and sweeter to swallow.  Ordering those type of shots was called a “DROP” in my lingo.

But really, I was going to call this “Melon Drop Mule”.  Knowing that you Tootz are mainly from the United States, you’ll probably be confused between the Melon vs. Cantaloupes terms.  Most Filipinos (such as my Momsy and family members)  will call Cantaloupes, “Melons”.  So, I’m not going to go in detail between the fiberous exterior skins of the types of melons.

MOSCOW MULE MUGS

cantaloupe drop mule moscow muled mugs

These moscow mule mugs are the perfect way to serve this refreshing cantaloupe drink.  These moscow mule mugs made from 100% pure copper.  The interior of all of the copper cups are lined with high-grade nickel. They are food safe too.

The moscow mule mugs hold approximately 16 ounces and are approximately 3.75 inches in height, 4.75 inches in width, and 3.25 inches in diameter.  Totally awesome to put more alcohol in – right?!

HOW TO CLEAN THESE MOSCOW MULE MUGS

Moscow mule mugs are plated with nickel in the interior.  The copper will naturally patina over time.  Patina is a thin layer that variously forms on the surface of copper, brass, bronze and similar metals, or certain stones, and wooden furniture, or any similar acquired change of a surface through age and exposure.  I personally like both finishes.

All you need to do is sprinkle a pinch of salt on a lemon slice or wedge and let the salt disolve.  Gently rub the surface of your mug.  The lemon and salt will form a mixture and will remove the patina and restore the copper’s shine.  After the mug is done, rinse with water and dry well with a kitchen towel.

After making this Cantaloupe Drop Mule, I decided to chill and sip this drink on our balcony.  What’s great about drinking this after, are the soaked cantaloupes. Super YUM!
